How are real–time balances calculated?

To calculate real–time information, Fidelity revalues the entire account, including the prices of the underlying securities. To generate real–time information, Fidelity also recalculates margin equity and margin debit to arrive at a new Total Account Value and other subsidiary balances.

When real–time information is used, the account is fully marked to market. This means the entire account is revalued, beginning with the prices of the underlying securities, and recalculating margin equity and margin debit to arrive at a new Total Account Value and other subsidiary balances. Remember, real–time balances are only a "snapshot" of your account taken at a particular point in time. In other words, real–time balances could be subject to wide swings from one revaluation to another, depending on market volatility and the Beta of your account.

Real–time balances are provided for informational purposes and Fidelity is not guaranteeing their accuracy, nor is Fidelity liable for any losses due to trading decisions you make on the basis of this information. This information is made available to show you generally where your account currently stands in terms of the balances in your account.

When are real–time balances available?

Real–time balances are available Monday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET, except for weekends and market holidays. Real–time balances do not reflect after–hours prices. If a real–time price for a particular security cannot be found, the price from the previous night’s close is used instead.

What is intraday balance activity?

Intraday balance activity is balance activity that occurs within the day according to executed trades, money movement, and other account activity. Federal regulations prevent Fidelity from using mark–to–market information to update an account’ Buying Power during the trading day. Use the intraday field to guide you as to the account’s most up to date Buying Power. Buying Power will be updated intraday following an executed trade, money movement, or other account activity.
