This Calculator runs on Sun Microsystems' Java which is an object-oriented programming language for adding animation and other action to Web sites. The applications (called applets) that Java creates can play back on any graphical system that's Web-ready, but your Web browser has to be Java-compatible for you to see it.

Java applets can display across computer types and operating systems. For IBM-compatible computers, browsers made for Windows 95 or Windows NT work well. For Apple Macintosh computers, both the PowerPC and 680X0 browser versions will work. We do not recommend the binary version of a web browser (a version that works on both 680X0 and PowerPC for the Macintosh).

If you have Netscape Navigator 3.0 and higher, Netscape Communicator 4.0 and higher, Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 and higher, or some types of America Online browsers, you have the ability to see Java applets. Make sure Java is selected in your preferences.

On the toolbar, under Options | Network Preferences, select the "Languages" tab. Make sure both "Enable Java" and "Enable JavaScript" are checked. You may have to close down and restart Netscape.

On the toolbar, under Edit | Preferences, select the "Advanced" section under "Category". Make sure both "Enable Java" and "Enable JavaScript" are checked. You may have to close down and restart Communicator.

On the toolbar, under Edit | Options, select the "Security" tab. Under the "Active Content", make sure "Enable Java Programs" is checked. You may have to close down and restart Internet Explorer.

Using Windows

If you are having trouble seeing the applet, upgrade your browser by following the instructions below:

• Select the "Keyword" button on the toolbar at the top of the screen.
• In the Keyword box, type: Upgrade, then press Enter or select OK.
• Click on "Accept" if you accept the export restrictions.
• Click on the "Download Now" button.
