As the name suggests, a growth fund looks for companies with strong growth potential. In time, this potential may translate into positive returns. However, past performance does not guarantee future results. The primary characteristic of a growth company is an earnings growth rate higher than that of the the overall market. Growth funds may be categorized according to a variety of different market capitalization groups, including large cap and small/mid cap. Using a Fidelity StyleMapSM to evaluate Growth funds. Our StyleMaps, which are based on the most recent and historical Morningstar data, provide a quick view of a fund's investment style and the size of the companies in which it invests - giving you a basic idea of its potential risk. For example, the map below identifies a large-cap growth fund.
