As the name suggests, a growth fund looks for companies with strong growth potential. In time, this potential may translate into positive returns. However, past performance does not guarantee future results.

The primary characteristic of a growth company is an earnings growth rate higher than that of the the overall market. Growth funds may be categorized according to a variety of different market capitalization groups, including large cap and small/mid cap.
