Help with Customer IDs

A Customer ID is a unique identifier that you create and use in place of your Social Security number when logging in to your Fidelity accounts. Fidelity suggests creating a Customer ID that contains both letters and numbers and is between 6 and 15 characters (symbols and punctuation not accepted).

How do I use my Customer ID on Fidelity's telephone services?

Customer IDs and PINs containing letters need to be translated to all numbers to enter them in a Fidelity phone system (FAST or if you call a representative). Use a standard keypad, like the one on most phones to convert the letters to numbers. Here's an example.

This illustration shows a typical telephone keypad layout. To enter a Customer ID, for example Smith123, press or say 7-6-4-8-4-1-2-3.

Important: Even if you're using a wireless device with a keypad that's different from the one above, you must use this standard keypad to convert any letters in your ID and PIN to numbers before entering them in the phone system.

How does "Remember me" work?

When you select the "Remember me" check box and then log in, your Customer ID is encrypted and stored on the computer you are currently using. The next time you log in, we will prefill your Customer ID and you only need to enter your PIN (which, for security reasons, is never saved) to log in.

Up to seven Fidelity Customer IDs may be stored on a computer and accessed from the "Customer ID/SSN" dropdown menu. If you log in from multiple computers, such as your home and work computers, you must save the ID on each computer separately.

For security reasons, only the last three characters of a saved ID are displayed with "Remember Me." If you are saving multiple IDs on the same computer, be sure that the last three characters are different, so that you can tell them apart easily. Change your Customer ID.

Important: Because "Remember me" stores your Customer ID on the computer you're using, do not use this feature on public computers (such as those in a library or internet café).

What if I no longer want my Customer ID saved?

To remove an ID from the list of saved IDs, clear the "Remember me" check box when logging in. The ID will not be saved on the computer you are using at the time. If you have saved your Customer ID on multiple computers, such as your home and work computers, the ID must be removed separately from each computer.

My Customer ID was saved, but now it isn't in the list of saved IDs. Why not?

There are three reasons your Customer ID may not be in the list of saved IDs:

  • You are logging in from a different computer. When you selected the "Remember Me" check box and logged in, your Customer ID was encrypted and stored on the computer you were using at that time. If you login from a different computer, you need to check "Remember Me" to save your Customer ID.
  • More than seven Fidelity Customer IDs have been saved on the computer you are using. Up to seven Customer IDs may be stored on any computer. If customers attempt to save more than seven Fidelity Customer IDs on a computer, only the seven most recently logged in Customer IDs will appear in the dropdown list.
  • Your "cookies" were deleted. Your ID is saved in a file called a "cookie." When cookies are deleted from your computer, your ID will no longer appear in the list of saved IDs. Once deleted, you should close your browser and open a new browser to begin entering your Customer ID and PIN.

What if my Customer ID and the ID of another user share the same last three characters?

For security reasons, only the last three characters of a saved ID are displayed. If saving IDs on the same computer, be sure that the last three characters are different, so that you can tell them apart easily. Change your Customer ID.
